Beegrateful

BeeGrateful

“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”-  Albert Einstein

Bees are decreasing dramatically; it is from this observation that Beegratful started. After further research we learned that not only bees are decreasing but that all the pollinators are in danger! In order to really make an impact we decided to focus not only on bees but on all pollinators, such as bumblebees and butterflies.

The decrease of pollinators is due to industrial agriculture, parasites, diseases, climate change and urbanization. All pollinators are essential in plant reproduction; more than 75% of the pollination for human consumption crops is done by pollinators. For example, without help from them we would not be able to get fruits, cereals and vegetables. According to  scientists, there are simple actions that us as individuals can take. Pollinators need food and a place to rest in the city, however biodiversity in cities is scarce.

That’s why we designed ‘The Bee&Bee’ (Bed&Breakfast) for pollinators to solve the problem of habitat loss that pollinators suffer from. The Bee&Bee for pollinators is built from a recycled pallet, it is a vertical garden that includes insect hotels. It will supply both nesting sites and floral resources for the insects. It can stay on a balcony, a garden or terrace. You can grow plants beneficial for pollinators as well as aromatic plants, herbs, and fruits;  it’s up to you!

We are also organising workshops where you can make a Bee&Bee for pollinators on your own, with friends and family. This is a fun experience where you can get to know more about pollinators doing this special vertical garden.
